The Relationship Between Metabolism and Nutrition
To say that metabolism is not a function of nutrition
would be an untruth. Aside from the hormonal functioning of our bodies, the
food, or nutrition, we eat is directly responsible for how our metabolism
functions. The higher the nutrient value of our food the better our
metabolism will run, resulting in less stored fat and a more energetic and
healthful life. There are a few people out there who have such a fast
metabolism that they can eat anything and everything and not gain weight,
but for most of us this is just not true.
Some of the best advice one can give when it comes to
metabolism and nutrition is that you need to eat to have a properly
functioning metabolism. With out proper nutrition and energy supplies the
body’s metabolism will slow down, often to the point where it becomes
impossible to loose weight. When the body is starved of nutrition and energy
it will go into survival mode, slowing its metabolism and hoarding every
calorie it can as additional body fat.
Remember, the more healthy you eat and the more
nutritional value in your food the better your metabolism will run. In this
modern era of convenience it is hard to always eat healthily. With all the
processed food on the supermarket shelves today the nutritional value of the
food we eat has suffered greatly then in years past. Refined sugars and
trans- fats are the culprits in many processed foods found on the shelves
today. These foods overload our bodies with excess calories and generally
have little nutritional value.
There is a certain harmony that exists between
metabolism and nutrition. Without proper nutrition that harmony does not
exist and our bodies pay for it through not only sub-optimal metabolism but
also unnecessary weight gain. With a proper diet of healthy nutrient dense
food and exercise ones metabolic rate will function at peak efficiency. |
